The Programme

This critical programme for patients, carers and members of the public, aligns to the NHS Constitution, Five Year Forward View and Sustainability Transformation Plans and will enable patient leaders and communities to be at the heart of transformation across healthcare organisations.

It aims to develop the skills, confidence and effectiveness of patient leaders across local healthcare systems. 

Delegates must be nominated by an NHS organisation and able to attend all three dates of the programme. These dates are:

Understanding the Healthcare System & Communicating with Excellence

The healthcare system is confusing and constantly changing, making it difficult to navigate for our leaders.  Our programme starts with an introduction to the healthcare system and what this means for you as patient leaders.

Communicating with excellence is essential for influencing services. As advocates for change, this session will enable patient leaders to understand the importance of effective communicate, power dynamics, how to challenge constructively, and effective collaborative working.

Managing Resilience and Conflict Resolution

Good patient and public leadership requires the confidence to challenge the status quo for transformational change and improvements. This can be challenging and frustrating. 

This session provides insight and the practical tools required for personal and group resilience as well as strategies on approach difficult situations more constructively.

Workshop 3
Tuesday 23rd January, 2018
Making Connections, Networks and Influencing

Well connected, empowered networks are important for effective patient leaders and key to the success of  future health and care services. 

This session consolidates the learning of the previous two workshops, and encourages reflection on behaviours that inhibit or enable effective and influential patient leaders. It also explores the importance of using connections and networks to your advantage.

Who should attend?

Patients, carers and public members already connected to the healthcare system are invited to attend the three day programme. All delegates will be registered prior to the start of the programme on the 14th September and there is no requirement to register on each day of the programme.
